ABSTRACT

Nowadays,theMachineTranslationandPost-Editing(MTPE)hasbecomea

preferredchoiceformanytranslators.Combiningtheadvantagesofspeedinherentin

machinetranslationwiththecapabilityformanualmodification,theMTPEmodecan

significantlyreduceerrorsandenhanceoveralltranslationefficiency.

Computer-AssistedTranslationSystem(CAT)canbetterleveragetheadvantagesof

theMTPE,aidingtranslatorsintranslationmanagement.Atthesametime,various

auxiliarytoolswithinthesystemcanfacilitatealargerscaleoftranslationoutput.

ThematerialforthispracticalreportistitledThePathtoEqual:Twin

IndicesonWomens’EmpowermentandGenderEquality,jointlypublishedbyUnited

NationsWomenandtheUnitedNationsDevelopmentProgramme,focusingonthe

domainofgenderequality.ThisreportbelongstothestandardUnitedNations

documents,characterizedbystrictlanguagenorms.

SDLTradosStudio2019andtheBaiduTranslationpluginwillbeusedfor

thisreport.TheMTPEmodewillbeemployedtoperformpost-editingonthe

machine-translatedtext.ThecasestudywillbeguidedbyPeterNewmarks

communicativetranslationtheoryandwillattempttointegrateProfessorLi

Changshuan’sdescriptiveframeworkof‘Comprehension,Expression,Adaptation’to

categorizeanddescribeerrorsinthemachine-translatedtextbasedonthesethree

levels,anddiscusscorrespondingtranslationstrategies.

Theresearchrevealsthatmachinetranslationstillrequiresimprovementsin

manyaspects.Intermsofcomprehension,machinetranslationstruggleswithhandling

polysemy,specificterminologies,andalackofunderstandingofthebackground

knowledge.Regardingtoexpression,errorsinmachinetranslationmanifestaslexical

redundancy,EuropeanChinese,andstylisticinconsistency.Intermsofadaptation,to

enhancereaderacceptanceandunderstandingofthetranslated
