ABSTRACT
Astheglobaleconomygraduallyrecovers,moreconferencesandexchangesarenecessary
acrossindustries.Ininternationalconferences,interpretingplaysakeyroleinfacilitatingcross-
culturalcommunicationanddialogue.Conferencesofteninvolveoff-scriptspeechesandfree
discussionsthatarenotpreparedinadvance,makinginterpretingworkmorecomplex.
Uncertaintyinthecontentofoff-scriptspeechesaddsfurtherchallengestoanactivitythatis
alreadyfraughtwithunknownvariablesandcontingencies.
Theauthorchosetoconductamockinterpretingpracticeusingmaterialsfromthe7th
JiWeiSemiconductorSummitheldonJune9,2023.Thisreportattemptstoanalyzeand
exploretheproblemtriggersthatmayarisewheninterpretingahighlytechnicalspeechthatis
deliveredoff-script.Thegoalistofindsolutionstotheseproblems.Toachievethisgoal,the
authorfirstidentifiesthepotentialproblemtriggers,includingincoherenceinthespeech,
idiomsandmetaphoricalexpressions,specific-to-generalstructure,ambiguouschartanalysis
andterminologies.Thesefactorsmayimposeasignificantcognitiveloadoninterpreters,
subsequentlyaffectingtheircopingstrategies,thefluencyandcompletenessoftheiroutput,and
theoverallinterpretingquality.Subsequently,theauthoranalyzeshowtheproblemtriggers
affecttheinterpretingperformancebasedontherecallofhisinterpretingprocessandthe
intertextualanalysisoftheinterpretingproduct.Bydoingso,theauthoraimstopropose
