GlobalIPCStrategy:ProgressandmilestonessharedatWHA78

Atthe78thWorldHealthAssemblyon23May2026,WHOpresentedaprogressupdateonthe

GlobalStrategyonInfectionPreventionandControl(IPC),highlightingkeyachievementssinceits

adoptionin2022.

➢FollowingendorsementofresolutionWHA75.13,WHOdevelopedaglobalactionplanand

monitoringframeworkthroughextensiveconsultationsandaDelphisurvey.Finalizedin

early2024andadoptedatWHA77,theframeworkoutlineskeyactionsandindicatorsfor

implementationthrough2030.

➢ToassessglobalIPCprogress,WHOlaunchedasurveyinNovember2023across150

countries,evaluatingadherencetominimumIPCstandardsandcollectingdataonhealth

care-associatedinfectionsandantimicrobialresistance.Findingswerepublishedinthe

2024WHOGlobalreportonIPC.

➢BetweenJune2022andDecember2024,WHOreleased21IPCguidancedocuments,11

trainingresources,andthreeassessmenttools.Technicalsupportwasextendedto

countriesinallWHOregions,including25inAfrica,12intheAmericas,andall11inSouth-

EastAsia.

➢WHOalsoelevatedIPContheglobalagenda,withinclusioninhigh-levelforumssuchasthe

G20inBrazil,G7inItaly,theUNGeneralAssembly,andtheGlobalMinisterialConference

onAMR,inSaudiArabia.

WHOreaffirmeditscommitmenttosupportingMemberStatesinstrengtheningIPCprogrammes,

aligningwiththeglobalframeworktoenhancehealthcaresafetyandcombatantimicrobial

resistance.
