decades.MethodsBodmassindex(BMI)wasmeasuredon15389middle-agedmenandwomenfrom15
naturalpopulationsalloverChinawithdifferentgeographical,economical(urban/rural)andoccupational
status.OverweightwasdefinedasBMI≥25whileobesitasBMI≥30.Results1)Theratesof
prevalenceonoverweightandobesitvarieddramaticallbetweenpopulations.2)Ingeneral,the
prevalencerateswerehigherinthenorthernareas,inurbanareas,andinwomen.3)Thecurrentproblem
ofobesitwasrelatedto`pre-obesestage,withlessthan10%inmostpopulations.4)Theprevalenceof
overweightandobesitstartedtoshowsignificantlincreasefromearl80stoearl90sbutmore
prominantinthelate90s.ConclusionPreventionandinterventionofoverweightandobesitarein
urgentneedintheChinesepopulations,especiallinthoseeconomicallfastdevelopingareas.
