tracktohitself-imposedtargetsofcuttingemissionsfromassets23%by2030.Moreover,leadersareabletoreduceemissionsathalfthecostpertonofCO2e,onaverage,

comparedtoabatementefortsconductedbytheirpeers.

Butthisstrongprogressisovershadowedbydecarbonizationlaggards,someofwhichoperateassetsthatproducemoregreenhousegasesorhaveahigheremissionsintensitytodaythanthreeyearsago.

Theindustrymustpickupthepaceifcompaniesaretomeettheirdecarbonizationgoalsandcapitalizeonopportunitiestomonetizehydrocarbonsthatotherwisewouldbeburnedup

orlost.Failingtoactcouldopenthemuptogreater

scrutinyandbiggerfinancialliabilitiesfromregulatorypenaltiesandchangestoemissions-tradingschemes.

Toreachthe2030reductiongoals,laggingcompaniesmustfollowtheexampleofcarbonabatementleadersandtakeaconsistent,holisticapproachtoreducinggreenhousegas

emissions.Theycangoafterthemostcost-efficient,low

capitalexpenseabatementactivitiesfirstbyadoptingproventechnologiesandpractices.Theyalsomustproactivelytap

intomultiplefundingsourcesandmakedecarbonizinganenterprise-wideendeavor.
