ThisstandardisissuedunderthefixeddesignationF1486;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(e)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.

Scope

ThispracticecoverstheprocedurefordeterminingtheabrasionandsmudgeresistanceofimagesproducedfromofficeproductsusingaGA-CATcomprehensiveabrasiontester.

Thispracticeisapplicabletoimagesproducedfrombusinessimagingproductssuchastypewriters,copiers,impactprinters,andnonimpactprinters.

OthertestmethodsusingtheCrockmeter,Sutherlandrubtester,andTaberAbradercanbeemployedtoevaluatesmudgeandabrasioncharacteristics.TheresultsobtainedbytheseunitsarenotnecessarilyequivalenttothoseobtainedwiththeGA-CAT.

Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.
