ThisstandardisissuedunderthefixeddesignationF2040;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(e)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.

Scope

Thisspecificationdefinesperformancerequirementsforhelmetsusedinnonmotorizedrecreationalsnowsports(suchasskiing,snowboarding,andotheralpinesports).Thisspeci-ficationisaperformancestandardandisnotintendedtorestrictdesign.Althoughahelmetthatmeetsthisspecificationwillhelpreducetheriskofsometypesofinjuriestotheheadatslowerspeeds,theprotectionislimited.Theuserisresponsibleforparticipatinginthesportwithinhis/herabilitiesandthenatureofthesnowconditionswhichmayvarywidely.Com-pliancewiththecommonsenserulesofthesport’ssafety,includinganyapplicableresponsibilitycodes,isessentialtohelpreducetheriskofpersonalinjury.

AlltestingandrequirementsofthisspecificationshallbeinaccordancewithTestMethodsF1446,exceptwherenotedherein.
