ThisstandardisissuedunderthefixeddesignationF1952;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(e)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.

Scope

Thisspecificationcoversperformancerequirementsforhelmetsusedbydownhillmountainbicycleriders.Studieshaveshownhigherrisktotheheadandfaceforthissportascomparedtorecreationalstreetriding;hence,thisspecificationrequiresgreaterimpactprotectionandprovidesperformancecriteriaforchinbarsonfull-facehelmets,butdoesnotrequirefull-facehelmets.Thisspecificationrecognizesthedesirabilityoflightweightconstructionandventilation;however,itisaperformancespecificationandisnotintendedtorestrictdesign.

AlltestingandrequirementsofthisspecificationshallbeinaccordancewithTestMethodsF1466,exceptwherenotedherein.

Partialutilizationofthisstandardisprohibited.Anystatementofcompliancewiththisspecificationmustbeacertificationthattheproductmeetsalloftherequirementsofthisspecificationinitsentirety.Aproductthatfailstomeetanyoneoftherequirementsofthisspecificationisconsideredtohavefailedthisstandard,andshouldnotbesoldwithanyindicationthatitmeetspartsofthisstandard.
