He is considered as the father of modern American literature and pioneer of American Humor. Mark Twain’s real name is Samuel Langhorne Clemens, who was born in Florida Missouri on 30th November 1835. While working for the Virginia City Enterprise, he adopted the pseudonym?“Mark Twain,” the way of a boatman taking soundings, and meaning two fathoms, i.e. twelve feet. The choice of the name may have been characteristically ironic, since two fathoms is presumably an uncomfortable depth for a large steamboat. Mark Twain’s works have an immortal artistic charm and vitality, because of his unique and absorbing description of American reality, his works widely use of American reality and vernacular, and his works present Native American material, all of which shape the world’s view about America and have a profound impact on the development of American literature. His first book Jumping Frog appeared in 1865. Then readers are impressed with his Roughing It and The Gilded Age. At the peak of Twain’s writing career, he contributed his masterpiece that is The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn to American literature and international literature as well. Huckleberry Finn has been praised over one hundred years of its existence and remarkable originality. Hemingway said:?“All American literature comes from a book called The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.”1 The greatness of Huckleberry Finn depends on Mark Twain provides the readers what is nation’s life and spirit through the description of a 14-year-old boy’s experience. The book shows characteristic reality of American everyday life to American literature from many aspects of the travel and adventure.
