IntroductionMark Twain and the plot of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn?Mark Twain?(1835-1910), pen name of Samuel Langhorne Clemens, is one of the best and the most popular American writers. He used to criticize various dark phenomena in American society with humor and irony skill. He is generally considered the greatest humorist in American literature. In the 19th century, Mark Twain as an outstanding represent of realism literature in the United States usually wrote about his own personal experiences and things he knew about from firsthand experience. At the heart of Twain’s achievement is his creation of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, who embody the mystic America.Twain was born in a village in Mississippi and grew up in the river town of Hannibal. The town was immortalized as St. Petersburg in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. In 1857, Twain was attracted by the river life of the Mississippi and became a stream-boat pilot. It was from this work that he got the idea of his pen name, which was a nautical term. At the age of 72, he was awarded the Doctor’s Degree of Literature by Oxford University. In 1910, he died in Connecticut. Most of Mark Twain’s works are filled with humor. A droll sarcasm is often directed against worldly sham and pretense of any kind. The most popular of his books are The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Life on the Mississippi depicts a unique kind of life that existed before the Civil War in America. It is historically interesting and valuable.
