IntroductionIt is noticeable that English has continued and is continuing to have an impact on many languages spoken today. Nowadays few people living in large Chinese cities are unfamiliar with loan words in their daily lives such as因特网(Internet)，摩托罗拉(Motorola) and比基尼(Bikini). Meanwhile, economical and technical terms taken from other languages, especially English, are even more common. They include纳米(nanometer),?引擎(engine) and so on.?In fact, the emergence of loan words in Chinese has been so fast that official statistics suggest about 1,000 such new words are added to the Chinese vocabulary each year. Loan words become very common in Chinese language. And now there are many scholars having noticed the importance of loan words. According to dictionaries,?“loan word” can be defined in ways such as?“a word of one language taken into another and naturalized”1,?“a word in one language that has been borrowed or taken over from another Language”2, or?“a word taken into one language from another”3.?A. Present Study of English Loan WordsEnglish has become the most popular and wide-used language in the world, which arouses the interests of many scholars such as Kachru?(1982/1992, 1986, 1999), McArther?(1987, 1998), Platt et al?(1984), Strevens?(1992), Gorlach?(1985), Graddol?(1977/1999) and Crystal?(1977/1999) since the 1980s. At the same time, the Chinese language has a long history of more than 3000 years. Chinese characters appear mysterious and amazing to many people because they are pictographs and ideographs. When the two kinds of language meet, they naturally contact with each other. The most obvious aspect of the contact is loan words. Nowadays, there are so many scholars pay attention to the study of the influence of English loan words on Chinese.
