The Present Situation in English Teaching in China“China now has a total of 800,000 primary and secondary schools with about 200 million registered students. There are believed to be around 100 million English language learners--most of them are learning English language as a compulsory subject at many primary schools in cities and almost all middle schools throughout the country.”1 From the data we know that English is becoming more and more popular in our country. However, there’s a well-known phenomenon in our domestic English teaching: students, who have been learning English for years, can not communicate in English. Students always act very actively at the beginning of English study, but with the increasing of difficulties of textbook their enthusiasm decreased gradually, even to hate learning English and give it up at last. That’s why some students can get high scores in lower grade but get lower and lower scores in higher grades. English teachers have been seeking for the best teaching approach which may help to get high scores for students in their examinations. It is known to all that?“interest is the best teacher”, so what the teachers do next is to make the students be highly interested in the process of learning English and bring up their new learning methods. It is a challenge for teachers to apply different teaching methods and romance the class atmosphere to ignite the students’ learning desire. Applying games in English class would be a very effective and assistant method to keep and improve the students’ learning desire. Czech educationist J.A. Comenius said that games are not only beneficial for improving children’s health, but also for developing their capabilities and intelligence, and famous Switzerland J.Piaget thinks that games are the basic way of education to create a safe, enlightening and changeable environment.
