IntroductionThe Internet is a collection of millions of linked computers, which enables millions of people to exchange information and ideas. It is regarded as the biggest communication revolution since the birth of the printed book. Since 1983, the Internet has been widely used in many fields. Approximately 30 million people world-wide use the Internet and online services daily. Internet is growing exponentially in all areas, and a rapid increasing number of people are finding themselves working and playing on the Internet. Many people are wiling to deal with public and even personal affairs through the Internet, and they become netizens. The people are not all rocket scientists or computer programmers. They are graphic designers, musicians, teachers, students, artists, and your next door. A new society which is made up of Internet information has come into being. That is what people called Internet society. Since Internet comes to be more and more a mass medium, it also represents a repository of particular interpretation. When people want to interact with others in this community, they must use the specific language so much so that others could regard them as the member of this same community and understand them. Therefore, as each society has its own language system, a language system that suits for such virtual community is necessary. Those who share the same specific language system form a unique speech community automatically. It is a virtual speech community in Internet society. This kind of language is called netspeak in Internet society.Many linguists both at home and abroad have showed great interests in this new and challenging field.
