Abstract
Nowadays, with the rapid progress of science, technology and society, English learning has become more and more important. Meanwhile, learner autonomy has become a buzzword in English learning and teaching in China in recent years. Learner autonomy is the demand of quality education and full scale development of human. The development of learner autonomy has received more and more attention in the field of English teaching and learning in China. Both the Ministry of Education in China and the new basic education curriculum reform have emphasized the importance of learner autonomy. Now developing autonomous abilities in English teaching and learning in China is one of the most urgent tasks. Although learner autonomy has taken a growing important role in the field of language education, due to the influence from many factors, it is not an easy process to develop students’ abilities to learn autonomously. Learners’ autonomous learning is affected by such internal factors as learners’ learning attitudes, learning motivation, learning strategies, self-monitoring and self-evaluating. It is also affected by external factors such as teacher factors, environmental factors.
This paper made a survey on 101 students in Senior Grade 1 from Kanggezhuang Senior High School, Ji County, Tianjin. It was carried out in the type of questionnaire from learner personal factors, teacher factors, and environmental factors to analyze how they influence autonomous learning abilities of Chinese learners of English. On the basis of the results of the survey, the author put forward the methods of
