Besides, I want to express my thanks to my friends and classmates, for their help and advice, support and encouragement, which have inspired me to great efforts during the long process. i Abstract The term New Left was applied to distinguish from the Old Left, which referred to the radicals in the 30s, composed of Labor Union, Social Democrats, and Marxists, who favored the replacement of capitalism with a new social system marked by a substantially greater equality of wealth and power. Though the New Left Movement didn’t bring about the social changes as the participants had expected at the beginning, its influence upon the American society and history can not be neglected. It speeded the end of the Vietnam War, helped the passage of the Civil Rights Act, promoted the university education reform, and delivered the Women’s Movement and Gay’s Movement and provided the movement theories and experiences for them to refer to.
