Abstract:Inordertodetermineseedvigorofforestfreerapidlyandautomatically,five-lotseedsofChinafirandmasson
pinewereusedtostudytheassessmentmethodsofseedvigorbyusingcomputerimageprocessing.Firstly,imageswere
capturedbyacommondigitalcamerafromgerminatedseedswhichgrewuprightonbluegerminationpaper.Then,
seedlinggrowthwasmeasureddailyfor5dayssince6thdayaftersowing(DAS)usingself-developedseedlinglength
calculatingsoftware.Theresultsshowedthattheseedlinglengthandgrowthrategenerallyrankedseedqualityina
similartrendcomparedwithfieldtest,andtheoptimalcomputerrecognitionindiceswerespeciesdependent.Seedling
lengthsat6th,9thDAS (SL6,SL9)weretheoptimalindicestoassessseedvigorofChinafir.Seedlinglengthat10thDAS
(SL10)andgrowthspeed (GS)weretheoptimalindicestoassessseedvigorofmassonpine.Ingeneral,itwasfeasibleto
assessseedvigorofChinafirandmassonpinebyusingcomputerimageanalysisofseedlinglengthandgrowthrate.The
researchcanprovideareferenceforseedvigorassessmemofsmall-seedspecies.
