Abstract:Folk religion is an im ortant area in the study of social history and some achievements have been made, which ro-
vide a good breach to have a better understanding of Chinese t raditional society.But there also exist some limitations, in
which the most serious roblem is the random a lication of conce ts.As for the research method, on the one hand, it is
influenced by some social sciences such as anthro ology, sociology, folklore, and so on;on the other hand, the traditional
methods of historiogra hical studies should be valued.
