摘要：习语是一定社会群体在特定的环境下通过长时间的使用而形成的固定表达习惯，往往含义丰富却意在言外，通过比喻、象征等手法使表达形象而富有趣味。习语包括我们通常说的俗语、谚语、以及汉语中的歇后语和英语中的俚语等。在习语的形成过程中其形成地的环境起着不可忽视的作用。本文通过分析自然环境和社会环境对中英习语形成的影响来阐述环境差异在习语中的体现。其中自然环境包括气候和地理两个因素；社会环境包括了生活习贯、宗教信仰两个各方面 关键词：环境差异；习语; Abstract Idioms are fixed expressions which are used by particular groups of people. Idioms are created through a long period of time. They are different from common expressions because they are always full of meaning but not simply what the words themselves mean. Symbolism is used in idioms in most case to make them vivid. And the “idioms” we talk here include colloquialism（俗语）, proverbs（谚语）, the two-part allegorical sayings which are called“歇后语“ in Chinese and slang expression（俚语） in English. Idioms are influenced profoundly by the environment in which they are formed. This article talks about the influence of east and west natural and social environment to idioms to show the readers the environmental difference lay in Chinese and English idioms. We have a lot of idioms concerned with seasons which give us different feelings. For example 温暖如春，夏日炎炎，秋高气爽，寒冬腊月。While England is a country with a mild sea climate, and it is humid/hjumid/ all the year round so there are a vast amount of idioms about rain and fog. For instance, rain or shine(means no matter when ) ; in a fog; not have the foggiest(you have no idea of what’s going on); China is a vast continental country where people live on agriculture in history while England is a island country in the embrace of the sea and navigation is so familiar to English people. So there are idioms like 面朝黄土背朝天；一分耕耘一分收获 in Chinese. And “many drops of water will sink the ship(涓涓细流沉大船); in a clam sea every man is pilot/pailat/” in English. 2.
