Year 7 Spelling Scheme of Work
This series of starters is designed to address the Year 7 Framework objectives for spelling (word level 1 – 12). 7w13 is not addressed here as it needs to be an integral part of a unit of work neither is 7w7 as it is assumed that this is addressed in the school’s LAC policy.
The starters are designed to be used as a discrete part of a three or four part lesson and provide a starting point for the teaching of spelling techniques. These should obviously be reinforced in other parts of the lesson and as an ongoing process. Teachers should use their knowledge of particular classes when deciding the extent to which they explore a given objective, ie you may not want to use all 46 starters.

Schools will need to obtain these texts to use this scheme. It is also recommended that pupils keep a spelling log.
It is also useful to inform other departments about the spelling strategies pupils are learning each week to enable reinforcement across the curriculum as a part of LAC policy.
Lesson Objective Activity 1 Learn ways to remember spellings Over the next few lessons pupils will be introduced to a variety of techniques (VAK) which they will then be asked to evaluate to establish their own preferences. Pupils should therefore be encouraged to try these techniques in other classes and at home.
