Performan ebased seismi design ( PBSD) is the development trend of seismi design in the world, whi h puts forward to multi target and multi level fortifi ation. To manage PBSD, we should establish realisti performan e obje tives. The performan e obje tives des ribed in Ameri an odes and Chinese odes were introdu ed, then the resear h a hievements of Chinese s holars were summarized. After that, four examples were given to illustrate the determination of performan e obje tives in super highrise buildings. The main prin iple should be that, not only the integrative obje tives, but also the weakness of the stru ture whi h engineers should pay adequate attention to and take effe tive measures to assure the safety of the stru ture design.
