B ased on the data of C h inese firm s respon se to the 2008 W erichuan earthquake and 20 10 Y u shu earthquake, w e find the extent of corporate contribution s is shap ed by firm s future profitability prosp ect from a strategic investm ent standpo int and also related to advertising intensity , firm size, firm age, geograph ic location, in dustry and ow nersh ip . Further study reveals the ex istence of rationality in ph ilanthrop ic decision-m ak ing. Im p lication for researchers and practitioners are d iscussed.
