* * To help make disaster recovery more efficient, NetBackup offers options that manage offsite taperotation or help speed server recovery across platforms. VERITAS NetBackup Vault offers “cradle tograve” services for tape media management, while VERITAS Bare Metal Restore teams with VERITASNetBackup to automate and simplify server recovery. * Let’s talk about NetBackup Vault. Simply put, NetBackup Vault coordinates tape rotation, to and from anoffsite facility. Today, it is not uncommon to find enterprises who are tracking their offsite tapes throughmanual techniques, perhaps using spreadsheets. NetBackup Vault helps address the challenges oferror-prone manual techniques by automating processes, such as the ejection of duplicate tapes to bebrought offsite, the tracking of offsite tapes and their associates slots, and the monitoring of taperetention periods, so that expired volumes may be brought back onsite for reuse. * An extension of VERITAS NetBackup, VERITAS Bare Metal Restore (BMR) provides optional automated and simplified server recovery. Fully integrated with NetBackup, BMR significantly reduces the number of steps requires to bring a system back to working order. No reinstallation of the OS or reconfiguration of the hardware is required. * * * While NetBackup can support backup over a SAN natively, its abilities are further enhanced with anoption known as SSO or Shared Storage Option. This option enables dynamic sharing of tape driveswhich reduces the total cost of ownership for the tape library and also the drives. Backups can becompleted quickly because more tape drive resources are available and are not statically assigned to aspecific server.
