Mo t of the elegie are played by the band in the pro ce of funeral, and tho e engraved on the tele are v er y rare. A batch of eleg ie engraved o n the new ly ex cavated epitaph of the T ang Dyna ty have been di cov er ed, w hich po e im por tant reference value a the poetry of the T ang Dyna ty. T he e eleg ie can be div ided into tw o type : one i ex cavated on the cover of epitaph; and the other i fro m the epitaph. T he e tw o type of elegie hav e their uniquene in term of the author, the object the author m ourned, the content and form . Meanw hile, the elegy of the T ang Dyna ty ha a v er y clo e relatio n hip w ith the funeral cu tom and the etiquette cu tom, and therefor e can help u know and under tand the funeral cu to m of the T ang Dyna ty. Further more, through co mparative re earch on the eleg ie engraved o n the new ly ex cav ated epitaph of the T ang Dy na ty and the eleg ie handed dow n, w e can obtain a deeper under tanding tow ard the pecial literary value and ocio cultural ignif icance of elegie .
