Thestu街onrelationshipbetweencharacteristicsofEastAsian winter/summermonsoonintensityindicesandthelargescale southern/northerndrought/floodinChinafrom1951to2003 ABSTRACT Thepapercomprehensivelyanalyzedthecharacteristicsofsouthern/northern drought/floodoffloodperiodprecipitationinChina,thevariablefeaturesoftheEast Asianwinter/summerandmonthly(DJF/JJA)monsoonindices,andtherelationship betweenmonsoonindicesandtemperatureandsouthern/northerndrought/floodin China.Themaincontentsandresultsareasfollows. ThespatialseesawstructuresandclimatefeaturesofApriltoSeptemberineast Chinawerestudiedmonthbymonthnadseason妙seasoninthispaper,theresults showthatthepositionandintensityaredifferentindifferentperiod.Thefeaturesof southem/northerndrought/floodaremoreobviouslywhentimescaleismorelarge. Theindexofsouthern/northerndrougb/tfloodwasdefnied,andwehaveusedthe methodtocalculatetheindexrfom1951to2003.Wehavenaalyzedtheseculartrend anddecadalvariationofthefeaturesofsouthern/northern drought/floodduring 1951-2003.Therelationbetweentheindexofsouthern/northerndrought/floodnad cold/warmeventswasalsostudied. TheEastAsinawinter/summernadmonthlymonsoonindicesareconstructedfor theperiodof1873-2003/2004nadtheirseculartrendvariationsarenaalyzed Evidencesuggeststhatthesummer,JunenadJulymonsoonwasgreatlyenhnaced rfom1951to2003withobviouslyenfeebledforthewinter.JnauaryandFebruary monsoon.TheresultsalsoshowthatEastAsinawinter/summernadmonthlymonsoon intensityindicesdisplayobviousinterannualnadinterdecadalvariations.Thereare biggerdifferentbetweenmonthandseason.Thestrong/weakwinter/summermonsoon yearscorrelatewithdefinitecirculation.Also,naalysisshowsthattheJnauary monsoondisplayedenfeebledsuddenchnagearound1985concurrentlywiththe abruptchnageingeneralcirculationofatmosphere.
