To best understand the role of this food, the discussion will begin with a history of the food - a comparison of how it has been handled in the past with how it is handled in present times - and touch upon misconceptions of these approaches. The paper will then explore various ailments that soy protein is said to cause, prevent, or possibly even cure. Lastly, this paper will critique the industry’s treatment of the soybean and soy-based products and will aim to discredit these health claims based upon the provided research and opinions from respected sources around the world. INTRODUCTION Imagine losing faith over something that became widely accepted because respected health experts and even government agencies fostered that belief for ambiguous reasons (Daniel, Intro). The result of this becomes a medical problem that may prove life-threatening and may even become an undesirable genetic trait that is passed along to children. While saddening, this is a generalized example of what has happened to a number of soy consumers. The goal of this paper is to study soy food production in depth, through an evaluation of the food’s history and preparation, the health effects related to its usage, and its status quo in today’s market. In doing so, the purpose of the paper will be to characterize the soy industry as misleading and conceivably manipulative while providing an objective argument that soy is not good for human life
