Meth od s 　A prospective study of 50 pa tients with ple ural effusion wa s conducted using conventional CT and CTP. CT sca n wa s run after injecting an appropriate amount of contrast medium into the ple ural cavity. Re su lt s 　In 24 pa tients , all lesions detected by convention al CT were de monstrated by CTP. In 13 of 24 patients , CT ple urography dete cte d additiona l lesions. In 20 of 2 6 patie nts with negative findings on conventional CT , CTP wa s cap able of de monstrating th e prese nce of pleural lesions. The sen sitivity , sp ecificity a nd accuracy of dete cting p leural le sions we re 2 5 % , 100 % a nd 30 % for conventional CT , 86 % , 100 % and 87 % for CTP , respectively. Con clu sion 　CTP is superior to conve ntion al CT in de te cting an d for the diffe rentia l diagno sis b enign and malignant ple ural le sions .
