Zhang Anling Abstract Metabolic Syndrome (MS) and the phlegm-heat syndrome are hot spots in current traditional Chinese medicine research.This study firstly reorganizes and induces the relative concepts and contents of MS,present research situation of the phlegm-heat syndrome and research on that syndrome of MS.Using the method of literature reorganization combined with clinical epidemiological investigation,this article probes into causes and pathological mechanis of the phlegm-heat syndrome of MS,and summaries its risk factors and clinical manifestations.It is proposed initially that the risk factors of the MS formation include:(1) the aged people (2) obesity (3) preferable greasy food (4) smoking and drinking (5) irritable temper (6) postmenopausal women, and the risk factors of the phlegm-heat syndrome of MS formation include:(1) high body mass index (2) concentric obesity (3) preferable meat (4) preference for salty food (5) drinking (6) too much pressure (7) irritable temper(8) snore sleep.The main clinical manifestations and differentiation standards of the phlegm-heat syndrome of MS are also summed up.It is pointed out that the phlegm-heat syndrome of MS is the sub-clinical state of some dangerous diseases such as stroke,and phlegm-heat can be considered as one potential pathogenic factor,so active prevention and cure of the formation of phlegm-heat is significant for the prophylaxis
