And the structural is complexity and diversity. Different models of automatic transmissions have larger structural differences. So the fault diagnosis and repair ranks first in the major assembly of the vehicle. Therefore, the application of fault diagnosis technology can improve the security and stability of the car. Automatic transmission detection diagnosis is composed with detection of equipment diagnosis and the diagnosis method. In order to solve the problem as much as possible in the process of detection and diagnosis, we should have adequate knowledge of the automatic transmission. And the main topic is the main methods and equipment of describing a typical automatic transmission, this subject should has important practical significance. Firstly, the paper introduces the principles and classifications of common automobile automatic transmission. Then analysis the structure and characteristics of the common transmission. Detection and diagnosis methods used in this paper are the fault tree diagnostics, failure mode analysis and automotive fault diagnosis expert system analysis, which combined with the detection and diagnosis equipment. then get to know the failure of the automatic transmission. Finally, through the examples of Honda Odyssey and the Volkswagen Passat automatic transmission automatic transmission fault diagnosis and detection , test and improve diagnostic methods and techniques.
