Tea Wares 茶器 Before 211B.C.: Use cooking utensils (potteries) The Qin and the Han Dynasties(211B.C.- 220A.D.):秦汉 porcelain pot In the Tang Dynasty, more tea utensils appeared: 唐朝 Exquisite metal teawares are used by the imperial family and the aristocrats. the commoners mainly used porcelain tea bowls, usually made of blue glaze or white glaze. In the Song Dynasty, purple clay tea sets came into existence : Zhan(盏) – a tea cup used by tea drinkers in the Song Dynasty (usually with a cup saucer) In the Ming Dynasty and the Qing Dynasty, the commonly used teawares were made by porcelain and the purple clay. 明清 Classification of Ceramics 陶瓷的分类: 1. Porcelain(瓷器): pure white and transparent, waterproof, fired in the temperature of about 1300℃. 2. Stoneware(炻器): white or black, opaque, low water absorbency, fired in the temperature of above 1100℃. 3. Pottery(陶器): yellow or black, opaque, low water absorbency, fired between the temperatures of 900 to 1200℃. Purple Clay Teapots 紫砂壶 Glass teawares porcelain, glass and silver teapots are suitable to make tea with pronounced aroma; tea with thick and mellow taste goes better with pottery teapot whose density is lower.
