Chapter 1 of Junior 8B. Memory Teaching Plan Teaching aims and demands: Language knowledge Some words and expressions that are connected to memory. New words and expressions Study conditional sentences with “if” and “unless”. The ways of expressing making apologies and excuses. Learn to express one’s daydreams using “if” clause. Abilities focus: a. Fast-reading for main idea of the reading passage. b. Guessing the meanings of new words from the context. c. Describing how to memorize something well according to the feature about memory. d. Learn to write an article for Memory. e. Train the students’ abilities in making sentences with if and unless Communication function: a. Cultivate the students’ abilities to co-operate with each other in the group work and to express their own opinions. b. Discuss how to remember something well between groups of students Main and difficult points: Ss should be able to memorize the key words and expressions. And learn to make up some sentences using the key phrases. Ss are expected to recite the important paragraphs of the reading passage. Ss are expected to master the conditional sentences with “if” and “unless”. Ss are expected to improve their reading, listening and speaking ablities. Teaching aids: PPT and tape recorder Periods needed: 10 Teaching procedures: Period 1-3 (Reading): Memory Period 1. Step1 Warming-up and lead-in 1. Listen to a song about memory and ask the Ss to think “What is memory?” 2. Have a test and see how good the students’ memory is. a. Six pictures will come out one by one. After they are shown on the screen, let the Ss tell out the correct order of each picture. b. Ask the Ss to read some words at normal speed. Then don’t look at it and write down the words they remember. After that, record their score. Use ppt. to help you list the new words. The best students should be praised. 3.
