华中科技大学硕士学位论文 Abstract Consumption is the act or activity conducted by a consumer to satisfy their certain needs by purchasing social products and services．It’s all unseparable step of the four steps of social production(manufacturing，distribution，exchange and consumption)．As an important macro—economic index，residents’consumption need plays a key role in the economic development．To promote the consumption need and to bring into play of its leading and pulling functions on economy is not only propitious for steady economic development but also coordinating the relationship between production and consumption．Therefore，a virtuous cycle of consumption need and economic growth is formed． The thesis analyzes the changes of consumIption need and exsisting problems since the end of 1970s．It probes into the theory that the key reasons for the low consumption need for both urban and rural residents arc the unstability of their incomes，uncertainty of their income expectations，unreasonableness of consumption policies and imperfect consumption circumstancs．All these factors weal(en its effects on economic growth．The thesis dissertates on how to start up residents’consumption need and its leading and promoting effects on economy．Firstly,residents’incomes should be increased to enlarge the foundation for consumption．Secondly,residents’income expectations should be stablised to promote their confidence in consumption．Thirdly,old consumption notions should be discarded to upgrade the consumption structure．Fourthly,consumption areas should be widened to activate the development of consumption credit loan．Fifthly,consumption policies should be modified to set up good consumption order．And finally,the consumption circusmstances should be improved to complete the consumables supplying system．Thus form a virtuous cycle of consumption need and economic growth，further improve the residents’consumption quality, promote all-round developments between people and society． boost a balanced deve
