■● ● ～ ● ● ● Abstract Nowadays，Genetic Engmeering Pharmaceutical Industry(GEPI)is the fastest developing industry in the world，except for Intemet and computer technology． Wlth deeper and deeper steps into research of Genomics Project and Proteomics Project，as well as the development of knowledge about various genes and proteins， genetic therapy and diagnostics will eventually change all the existing therapy methods and do benefit to human beings． The GEPI in China has developed for more than ten years．It has a certain scale and foundation now and is growing up in a high speed under the focus of all the society．T11is article．through the comparison of GEPIs between Chinese and worldwide situation，and the analysis of the advantage domestic GEPI has as well as the threat it faces，tries to give some advice and countermeasure which may be helpful to the development ofdomestic GEPI． To view the situation of international GEPI generally,this industry has characteristics of hlgh investment．high risk and high retum．Multinational enterpnses use their great financial powers，technical foundations and capability of research and development，keeping brings out new medicine products．And then they will take the advantage of the protection for patent to gain high profit in intematmnal market． Comparing with them．most domestic enterprises are still in a stage of manufacturing imitating medicines because of financial and technical problems．Very few domestic medicines have own patents．With the completion of laws and regulations m patent protection,the GEPI in China will face to server threat．Only with the cooperation between government and enterprises to improve the condition under which GEPI survives and develops to bind the technological revolution wit}l the development of the industry,to fully take the advantage of the unique gene resource of China,to develop products witll own patent．Can GEPI in China accept the challenge and put itselfinto the international market to become stronger
