The Young Republic and Westward Movement The American War of Independence was of great historical importance and influence: 1. A new republic emerged, which marked a new beginning of American history. 2. It told the world that a just cause would sooner or later win while the evil cause would certainly lose. The Significance of the War 3. The victory greatly encouraged the people in the colonies ruled by the Spanish and promoted the national liberation struggle of the other colonies in the world. 4. After the War of Independence, capitalism got a chance for free development. 5. Territorial expansion is on the way. The Constitution guides American society in law and political culture. In addition, it lays out the basic rights of citizens of the United States. In this way, under this advanced constitution, the newly independent nation can be able to develop and become the strongest nation all over the world later. As the oldest charter of supreme law in continuous use, it influenced later international figures establishing national constitutions. Constitution of the United States The first three Articles of the Constitution establish the rules and separate powers of the three branches of the federal government: a legislature, the bicameral Congress; an executive branch led by the President; a federal judiciary headed by the Supreme Court. The last four Articles frame the principle of federalism. The Tenth Amendment confirms its federal characteristics. In 1791, the first ten amendments, known as Bill of Rights, were put into the Constitution.
