关于吴文英何以布衣终身的考辩
摘 要:吴文英,字君特,号梦窗,晚年又号觉翁,四明( 今浙江鄞县) 人,是南宋词坛与辛弃疾、姜夔并称的著名词人。其才惊艳绝伦,交友广泛,其中不乏吴潜、贾似道等达官贵胄,然其个人布衣终身。由于正史无传,其他资料也鲜有记载,其生平事迹人们所知甚少。对于吴文英何以布衣终身亦是众说纷纭。本文拟对吴文英何以布衣终身这个问题作审慎探讨,借以管窥梦窗之身世、生平。

A Research on Why Wu Wenying Remained as an Ordianary Citizen All Through His Life

Abstract:Wu Wenying styled himself Junte, and named himself Mengchuang. In his last years, he also named hmself Juewong. He was born in Siming which is called Jinxian in Zhejiang Province now. He was a song poet as famous as Xin Qiji and Jiang Kui. He was very brilliant and talented. He had a lot of friends. Some of them had honoured titled such as Wu Qian and Jia Sidao. However, he remained as an ordianary citizen all through his life. Because there is no biogaphy of him in the official records, and little information about him in other records, his life story is almost unknown. There are a lot of divergences on whether he remained as an ordianary citizen all through his life. We will carry on a careful research on why Wu Wenying remained as an ordianry citizen all through his life in order to discover the life story of Wu Wenying.

据现有资料,未见吴文英入仕的记载,然梦窗才华超卓,何以布衣终身呢?这不禁引起人们的好奇与关注。学界大家对此有一系列的研究与探讨,对梦窗布衣终身之原因亦是观点不一。笔者略作概括,约这么几点:一是杜文澜《梦窗词叙》中说的因人品“高尚不仕”;二是杨铁夫《吴梦窗事迹考》一文中说的梦窗“少好文词,不攻举子业,故未得志于场屋”,并且说明了理由,即“以梦窗之才,乃竟不得一科名,何也?梦窗盖耽于诗词,绌于经义者也。否则,不乐科举也”;三是钱鸿瑛在透析和总结大家之言的基础上,认为“梦窗何以布衣终身,一直是个谜。这里有三个问题可供探索:一是不乐科举,二是应试不中,三是其他原因”。
从逻辑学角度来看,笔者认为钱鸿瑛关于梦窗未仕原因之推断更为可信。以梦窗言行为依据,对于梦窗人品是否高尚尚且不论,认为其不仕只是因为人品高洁,不愿为官,与梦窗十数年入幕经历不合。同时,梦窗才华超卓,就算“绌于经义”,焉能应付不了小小科举之试,因而杨铁夫之观点亦是让人不敢完全认同。其实正如钱鸿瑛所说,梦窗未仕之因不外乎三种,且笔者认为当推第三种原因为之最可能。本文将在钱鸿瑛相关论述的基础上,结合梦窗词所反映的信息,进一步诠释和探讨。
