Speaker Notes: A good rule of thumb is that you should end up with approximately 10 elements on your SOS Once we have broken elements down by location and product grouping, we can look at the duration of the element. An element should not be too small in time or too long in time. It is difficult to transfer big or small chunks. This makes the work much more difficult to improve. A good rule of thumb is that it is approximately 10% of the actual takt time. This is normally the last of the guidelines to be applied or used to evaluate our chunking. It is used more as a check and balance to see if we have significantly deviated from common sense. If we have 50 elements that are all around 2% of the ATT or 3 elements that are all around 30% of the ATT, we need to go back and evaluate whether we’re chunking the elements properly. Note: Supplier may have Different Available Time to produce because of differences in Lunch and Break TIMES Actual Takt Time at a supplier may be slower than at the GM Plant – This may create problems depending how close the supplier is to GM Assembly Speaker Notes: Review this chart to show the relationships of the terms and introduce the fact that we’ll now talk about how the team member and machine cycle time is developed. Be prepared for a significant amount of discussion here, especially if one or more of the participants feel that they do not have enough time to do their jobs. Safety and ergonomic symbols roll-up from the Job element Sheet JES . For example, a key safety point associated with job element 1 found on the supporting JES would be visually indicated on the SOS.
