Transient Side Effects Many are transient in the first few weeks e.g. headache, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting Other medication can by used to manage/alleviate these symptoms Patients need IMMENSE SUPPORT and ENCOURAGEMENT to continue with regimen Severe Side Effects Some side effects may be severe e.g. rash, hepatitis, lactic acidosis, pancreatitis, hyperlipidaemia, peripheral neuropathy The Doctor may need to change the ARVs being taken by the patient Early identification and prompt, appropriate management is essential!
