USAGE:ADOPT/ ADAPT adapt: ①「to」change sth. to suit a new need eg: He adapted an old car engine to drive his boat. ②change to be more suitable eg: When he moved to France, the children adapted( to the change) very well. →adaptable: adj able to change or be changed so as to be ↓ suitable for new needs, different conditions, etc. unadaptable →adaptability →adaptation eg: The film is adapted from a novel. The novel is adapted for a film. back USAGE: error/ mistake An error is the same as a mistake except that: ①Error suggests a moral wrong, mistake a misjudgment. eg: I took his umbrella by mistake. I took his umbrella in error. ②Error is a more formal word. ③In certain fixed phrases only one of them can be used. eg: an error of judgment/ by mistake ④A small unintended mistake is a slip or an oversight. eg: I mean to write “son” not “sun”-it was just a slip of the pen.
