10.4 Current leadership theories and development The industrial development provides seeds of new paradigms of leadership, such as transactional, transformational, full-range, charismatic, strategic, ethical, and authentic leadership. Those leadership styles were believed as the property of individuals and equated with management concepts. 10.4 Current leadership theories and development 1.Transactional leadership and Transformational leadership 交易型领导与变革型领导 As the name labeled, transactional leadership focuses on “transactions”. Transactional leaders are interested in exchanging benefits with their subordinates and providing explicit description of the task objectives. Transformational leadership involves leaders’ transmitting their attitudes, beliefs, and values to followers as opposed to simply pushing them to comply with leaders’ requirement. 10.4 Current leadership theories and development 2.Charismatic leadership 魅力型领导 As House (1977) proposed that charismatic leadership has profound and unusual influences on the followers. Generally speaking, followers always perceive that charismatic leaders’ decisions are correct, have strong willingness to comply with charismatic leaders’ direction, and emotionally involve themselves into the group or organizational work. 10.4 Current leadership theories and development 3.Ethical leadership 道德型领导 As Burns’ s (1978) statement that ethical leadership means leaders engage themselves into followers and help them to solve their personal problems regarding to conflicting values. It is an ethical perspective of leadership style, because it speaks directly to the values of subordinates. 10.4 Current leadership theories and development 4.Strategic leadership 战略型领导 Entering to the 21st century, the competition of global are full of competitive opportunities and threats (Ireland and Hitt 1999).
