Its existence is only because an English sentence must contain a subject and a predicate. It是虚主语。无意义，它的存在只是因为英语句子必须含有一个主语和一个谓语动词。 1.Indicate time, date, weather, natural phenomenon, environment, price, weights and measures etc. 表示时间、日期、天气、自然现象、环境、价格、度量衡等。 2.Refer to the person concerned in the sentence 表示句中所涉及之人 Its lovely in the garden, Let,s go for a walk. 花园里真美，咱们走走吧。 （环境） —May I come in?—我能进来吗？ —Who is it? —谁呀？ —Its me.是我。（句中涉及之人） As Antecedent 作先行词 It acts as antecedent subject or antecedent object. It only helps the formal one (infinitive, gerund, noun clause) be placed behind in order to keep the sentence balance. It作先行主语或先行宾语，帮助真正的主语或宾语。（不定式、动名词、名词从句）后移使句子保持平衡。 Its necessary to use a short-wave radio to pick up the programmes. 必须用一台短波收音机才能收听这些节目。 (it=to use a short-wave radio) It was like being on a boat.
