Earlier this year, Professor Downie passed away. He was an outstanding scholar and pioneer in the field of palynology, and William A.S. Sarjeant has written an obituary for the Acritarch Newsletter. It is accompanied by Charles Downie?s bibliography, also compiled by William A.S. Sarjeant. Apart from the news and current research section, an address-list to those people that confirmed their membership in the Acritarch Subcommission of the CIMP is provided in this issue. A list of acritarch-related research papers that were published in 1998 and in 1999 is also included. It is by no means complete, but hopefully, you will find some literature that might interest you there. Continue to send your newly published papers to me! From this issue on, we have decided that only those workers who sent in their reply forms to the CIMP general secretary Thomas Servais will get the Acritarch Newsletter. This is because we were sending out an awful lot of newsletters, for an awful lot of money, to people apparently no longer active in the acritarch business.
