MINUTES TO THE LAUDERDALE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING JANUARY 14, 2015 BOARD MEETING AT 4:00 P.M. The Lauderdale County Board of Education met with the following members present: Jerry Fulmer, Chairman Barbara Cornelius, Vice Chairman Chad Holden Ronnie Owens Daniel Patterson Upon the recommendation of Dr. Gray, the motion was made by Mr. Holden, seconded by Mr. Owens and passed the meeting agenda. Dr. Gray gave the following Superintendent’s Report: Goal 1. To actively engage all 21st century students in a challenging curriculum based on College and Career Ready Standards. System-wide technology committee met on the 12th to discuss our Chromebook rollout for 2015-2016. We will be surveying the teachers in the upcoming weeks to determine our professional development needs. A team from the system will be visiting Bridgestone next week to look at the possible opportunity of developing a Megatronics program. Next month, we will begin to create resources for science instruction due to the fact there seems to be no forthcoming text book for that subject. Goal 2. To encourage and foster a safe atmosphere which values excellence and mutual respect. Officer Horton has been replaced by Officer Jason Brown. Officer Brown’s main sites will be Waterloo, Central, and Underwood. Met with sheriff elect and discussion was held to incorporate our SROs into a community resource; Hoping to expand our current SRO number. Flu season is here. We have several students and staff members who are sick. We are encouraging individuals with the flu or flu-like symptoms to stay home. Learning Supports - A Learning Support representative from Gainesville, GA will be visiting with us in February. They were the successful pilot system for LS, Goal 3.
