Standards Enduring Understandings Differentiate between weight and mass, recognizing that weight is the amount of gravitational pull on an object. Students will understand that physical properties can be measured or observed without changing the composition of a substance, while chemical properties cannot be. Differentiate between volume and mass. Define density. Students will understand that all things are composed of matter Recognize that the measurement of volume and mass requires understanding of the sensitivity of measurement tools (e.g., rulers, graduated cylinders, balances) and knowledge and appropriate use of significant digits. Students will understand that any scientific investigation begins with a question that is subsequently tested and re-examined. Students will understand that a “good” scientific investigation accounts for all variables but only tries to manipulate one at a time.
