The plants that do grow are mostly mosses and groundcover plants with very shallow roots that cannot penetrate the frozen ground. Location: Rainforest The dark green areas on the map are rainforests. Notice that the Earth’s rainforests are located very near the equator. Climate: Rainforest Temperature: The average temperature is about 77oF. The rainforest is about the same temperature year round and never drops below 64oF. Precipitation: The annual precipitation (rainfall) is more than 150cm per year. This is about 4 inches each month. Soil: Soil in the rainforest is very poor. Plant life is so lush because the plants store the nutrients themselves rather than getting them from the soil.
