Forbid users or roles from performing certain task(s) Authorization Constraints Intra-instance Constraints specified on a workflow schema and therefore apply to a single instance Static: can be enforced at the time of schema specification Dynamic: can only be enforced at run-time Inter-instance Constraints specified on instances rather than on the workflow schema Can be specified on multiple instances of the same workflow that can only be enforced at run-time can be specified on the history of instances and therefore are not necessarily limited to one workflow Other purposes workload and resource distribution Need for Inter-instance Constraints Prevent collusion Approve each others loans!!
