An Iconological Study on the Covers of Architectural Journal ABSTRACT The images on the covers ofArchitectural Journal provide a way to look into the evolution of the mainstream values in Chinese modern architecture history. The data analysis indicates that since 1954 the cover images have gone through several significant systematical changes and reestablishments concerning six aspects: formal strategy, narrative themes, types of content, values of views, geographical distribution and designers’ weights. These facts about cover images reflect a series of facts in the forming process of the paradigm of recognition of Chinese modern architecture featuring reason, modernity and interests on small narratives.
