Abstract Because of the common regularity, there are many common grounds in the cultural concepts of all nations. However, because of the different characteristics of eastern and western cultures in many aspects during social historical development, many differences exist between them. Then, the differences of cultures are reflected in the language that record culture naturally. And the proverb is a vivid and regular form in the language. These proverbs full of cultural meanings show differences in culture of Britain and China explicitly. These differences will be discussed, which are reflected in the proverbs from religious belief, moral concept, convention and humanism in this article.
