This course focuses on the research, analytical thinking, activities, and decision-making processes that enable district level superintendents and their senior-level associates to be successful. The central and guiding purpose of this course is to provide potential superintendents with the essential knowledge and skills for making informed decisions regarding the various aspects of the position of district superintendent in public schools in the United States, with emphasis placed on North Carolina. This course emphasizes the importance of successful leadership practices at the level of the superintendency and the district executive cabinet. It will invite participation in discussion on the varied and complex role superintendents and their staffs play in their school systems.
