[Keywords:] verapamil, obstructive jaundice, nuclear factor B, liver injury [Abstract] Objective: To investigate the effect of verapamil on expression of nuclear factor kappa B (NF B) in the liver during obstructive jaundice.Methods: Forty eight male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups: bile duct ligation group, bile duct ligation plus verapamil group and sham operation group.The rats were sacrificed at 7 and 14 days after operation.The following parameters were measured: expressions of hepatic NF B p65, contents of maleicdialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in hepatic tissue , tumor necrosis factor @ (TNF @) and interleukin 6 (IL 6) in serum. Results: Expressions of NF B p65, contents of MDA and levels of serum TNF @, IL 6 in verapamil group were all obviously lower than those in bile duct ligation group (P lt;0.05 or P lt;0.01).
