Methods 48 adult male and female of the SD rats were randomly divided into normal group, model group, acupuncture group and medication group, 12 in each group. After 3 group were isolated unforeseen maintenance and long-term stress caused by moderate-intensity stimulation of rat model of depression, while the acupuncture group and drug group began treatment cycle every 21 d. The rats measured behavior change after treatment with radioimmunoassay of serum ACTH, T3, T4, rT3 and TSH concentrations. Results Compared with normal group, model behavior score in rats decreased serum T3, T4, rT3, TSH were significantly lower (P lt;0.05 , P lt;0.01, and ACTH were significantly higher (P lt;0.01, compared with model group, the behavioral treatment group score higher, acupuncture serum T3, rT3, TSH levels were significantly higher (P lt;0.05 , P lt;0.01, ACTH levels were significantly decreased (P lt;0.01. Conclusion depression acupuncture intervention can change behavior abnormalities in rats with regulating depression rat hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis and hypothalamus-pituitary-thyroid axis function.
