Methods The streptozotocin (STZ)-induced by intraperitoneal injection of rat diabetes mellitus (DM) model, the model is successful were randomly divided into 3 groups: model control group, captopril group, Shen Kang pill group, a separate control group. After 8 weeks, take in rat kidneys, was observed by immunohistochemistry in rat kidneys in each group fibronectin (FN), transforming growth factor  β 1 (TGF  β 1), and Smad 7 protein expression situation. Results After 8 weeks, DN model group compared with the normal rat kidney tissue FN and TGF  β 1 protein expression increased significantly, Smad 7 protein expression decreased significantly. Kidney Pill and captopril could reduce the FN and TGF  β 1 protein expression, increasing Smad 7 protein expression. Conclusion Shenkang pill can inhibit the DN rat kidney TGF  β 1/Smad signal transduction pathway activation, reducing ECM deposition, thereby delaying the process of DN.
